Can I read eBooks in Kindle, Apple Books, Nook, or VitalSource?

Not directly. Most books you buy commericially have DRM (Digital Rights Management), which means they are encrypted and can only be opened in their native apps. This is stated clearly in the description of Voice Dream Reader in the App Store.

There’re ways to remove DRM. For example, for Kindle books, please search for “Apprentice Alf” in Google, you’ll find the links to DRM Removal tools. Kindle books also require an extra step to convert from MOBI format to EPUB format.

Most of us wish DRM would go away, but unfortunately, for eBooks, they do not appear to be going anywhere.
